But, what does Oupendo mean?
I’m glad you asked.
Oupendo is our version of the Swahili word for love — “Upendo.” For us, it means more than just love. It means caring for each other, helping one another, and knowing we don’t have to walk this road alone.
In recovery, we often hear that being honest, open, and willing are the keys to change. That’s what Oupendo is all about. Our doors are open, our hands are ready, and we grow together as we learn new ways of living.
Oupendo is also about community. In many African traditions, the community is like family—everyone looks out for each other. That’s how our homes work too. We support one another, celebrate each other’s progress, and remind each other that real change happens when we do it together.
